Photographers specializing in architecture, city and landscape approach their work from various positions the spectrum ranges from pure documentary product photography to autonomous art photography. Between the two extremes are those who like to work on commission and, at the same time, reformulate the brief to reflect a personal interpretation.
The authors of Positions believe it’s this approach that produces the most interesting images and is the most relevant form of photography for the development and enrichment of all creative disciplines.
This publication features the portfolios of six Dutch photographers. Accompanying interviews clarify the position of each photographer and the images selected for the book. Distinguishing these photographers are the ways in which they succeed in making a commission their own, despite assuming positions that vary from embedding themselves in the creative process to personally formulating the task at hand. Regardless of diversity in position, however, their work exemplifies the most important developments in architecture photography of recent decades.
